When Paper Is Jammed
Remove the jammed sheet by following the procedure described in the animated illustration displayed on the control panel. If paper jams occur frequently, check that the actual paper size in the tray and the [Settings]
[Tray/Paper Settings] displayed on the control panel are the same.
Be careful not to rip the jammed paper and leave small pieces inside the machine when removing. Hold on the left and right edges of the paper firmly and apply force evenly to pull out the paper.

Do not turn off the power of the machine when removing the jammed paper. If you turn off the power, the specified settings values are reset.
Only perform the operation described in the animated illustration. Failure to do so may degrade the print quality or cause a malfunction.
If the error message remains displayed even after you remove misfed paper, press [Removed Paper] or fully open the back cover, and then close it.
The area inside the back cover contains hot surfaces. When opening the back cover to remove paper, wait a while to allow the hot parts to cool down before performing the procedure.

When removing jammed paper, you can touch only those areas explicitly indicated in the manual.
Do not remove the fusing unit. Doing so will result in loss of print quality.
If an original is jammed in the paper output of the ADF and you cannot remove it by hand, use a thin rod, such as a pen, to remove the original. Do not use a sharp-tipped thin rod to remove jammed paper. Doing so may damage the inside of the machine.

If the paper tray is set, it may be difficult to remove the jammed paper. Pull out the tray completely before removing the jammed paper.
When removing jammed paper from the bypass tray, first remove the paper loaded on the bypass tray.

To close the bypass guide at the back side of the paper tray after removing jammed paper, push up the bypass guide from beneath its center until it clicks and the guide plate closes.

If you cannot insert the paper tray into the machine completely after removing jammed paper, check that the bypass guide inside the machine is pushed up completely.
Check the part where the paper jam occurred on the screen.

When the display is turned off, press [Check] in [Check Status]
"Machine Status".Follow the procedure described in the animated illustration to remove the jammed paper.

If [Removed Paper] is displayed, press [Removed Paper] after removing the paper.
Close all covers that have been opened.

If the jammed paper was torn apart while removing it, check that all pieces are accounted for.
If paper becomes trapped between the tray and the machine while removing jammed paper, pull out the tray completely and then remove the paper.
If the message remains displayed even after you remove the jammed paper, open the front cover completely and then close it. Check whether any paper is jammed in another location on the screen shown in Step 1 if the message persists.
If you notice a paper jam about to occur in the ADF, press [Stop] to pause scanning, and place the original in the ADF again.
Check that the paper and originals are loaded properly, and that the related settings are specified correctly.
Condition of paper and originals
Items to check
Solution if applicable
Are the sheets of paper or originals stuck to each other?
Fan the sheets of paper and originals thoroughly before loading them in the tray or the ADF.
Are the sheets of paper or originals curled?
Correct the curl before loading the paper in the tray. When the paper supports duplex printing, fan the paper thoroughly and turn over the paper.
To prevent paper becoming curled, store the paper horizontally on a flat surface.
Straighten any curls before loading originals in the ADF.
Are the sheets of paper or original folded or wrinkled?
Has the paper not been printed on previously?
Load new paper with no folds or wrinkles.
Do not use paper that has been used for copying or printing on a copy, printer, or MFP other than the machine.
Straighten any folds or wrinkles before loading originals.
Is the paper dry and not moist?
Load paper that has been stored in a dry environment.
Store paper in an environment where the humidity is below 70 %. Once the packaging material containing the paper has been opened, place the paper in a plastic bag to keep it dry.
Are the cut surface of the paper or original smooth and clean?
If the cut surface is uneven, set the paper in a different orientation so that the cut surface faces another direction. When the paper supports duplex printing, turn over the paper.
If the cut surfaces are uneven, fan the originals thoroughly before setting them in the ADF.
Is the paper too thick?
Is the paper too thin?
Check the specifications for the paper that can be used on the machine, and load paper that is supported.
Is there any paper remaining inside the machine from when paper was fed from the bypass tray?
Paper may remain inside the machine where it cannot be seen from the outside.
See the following to remove the paper.

Solution if applicable
Are too many sheets of paper or original loaded?
Load paper in the tray or the bypass tray so it is below the upper limit mark(
or
).
Load the originals in the ADF so they are below the upper limit mark(
).
Are the side fence and end fence in the paper source tray of the mainframe properly adjusted to the paper size?
Adjust the side fence or end fence so that there is no gap between the fence and loaded paper.
When loading only a small amount of paper in the tray, adjust the fences so that they do not press too tight against the paper.
If the side fences and the end fence are too loose or too tight when regular size paper is loaded, the paper may not feed properly or may cause a paper jam, so set the side fences and the end fence to fit to the size of the paper.
Example of a gap between the fences and the paper
Example when the fences are too tight and the paper is pushed up
When loading regular size paper, do not move the loaded paper stack in the paper tray too much; otherwise the edge of the paper get into the gap at the bottom of the paper tray and cause a paper jam or crease the paper.
Push the paper tray slowly in to the machine. If the tray is pushed with force, the side fence may move slightly.
Is the bypass tray used correctly?
Set the machine in a location where the bypass tray and the loaded paper do not come in contact with the wall.
Adjust the paper guides on the left and right sides of the tray to match the paper size.
When loading paper, pull out the extender.
Also check the basic procedure for loading paper into the machine again.
