Printing

The following section explains the various printing methods that are available:

Printing the Color Sample

You can print the color sample to view the configured values for specifying the pen colors on the RPGL Menu, and the results of the adjustments you have made to the colors.

1Press [Settings].

2Press [Printer Settings].

3Press [List/Test Print], and then press [Sample Pages].

4Press [Color Sample].

5Press [Start].

6Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

Overview of the Color Sample

Patches of the colors that can be selected on the control panel are printed in arrays. 256 color patches are available.

Default Pen No.

Indicates the pen number for "9. Pen 1 Settings" - "16.Pen 8 Settings"/"50.Pen 9 Settings" - "57.Pen 0 Settings" on the RPGL Menu. If a number is printed below the center of a color patch, the number indicates the patch represents the factory default color of each pen.

"Default Pen No." is not printed for all patches of colors except the default colors.

Color Number

Indicates the pen number selected in "Pen Color" for "9. Pen 1 Settings" - "16.Pen 8 Settings"/"50.Pen 9 Settings" - "57.Pen 0 Settings" on the RPGL Menu. For details about how to specify the setting, see Printing in Pen Colors Specified on Control Panel.

RGB Combination

Shows the ratio of the three primary colors, R (Red), G (Green) and B (Blue) composing the color in the patch. The value is shown as a number between 0 (black) and 255 (white). The ratios cannot be modified.

Color Patches

Shows the colors you can specify on the control panel.

Current Settings

Shows the color adjustment items and their settings used when the color sample is printed. The following settings are printed:

  • Color Mode

  • Image Quality Adjustment

  • Font

  • Plotter ID

Printing in Pen Colors Specified on Control Panel

Using the control panel, you can specify the pen color that corresponds to the pen number used in the application.

Pen 1 is used as an example in the following procedure.

1Print the color sample.

For details about how to print the color sample, see Printing the Color Sample.

2Check the printed color sample, and specify the number of the pen color.

Specify the pen number using the numerical value under the patch indicated as "Color Number".

3Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

4Press [Settings].

5Press [Printer Settings].

6Press [RPGL Menu].

7Press [9. Pen 1 Settings].

8Press [9-3. Pen 1: Color].

9Change the value using the number keys.

10Press [OK].

11Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

12Print the data from the computer.

Note

  • This function is effective when "Color" is selected in "81. Color Mode".

  • For RP-GL/2, the pen color settings are effective when "Machine Setting(s)" is selected in "40. Pen Setting Priority".

  • For details about how to print color samples, see Printing the Color Sample.

Printing in Black and White

You can print data using only the black ink. Color images are also printed in black and white.

1Press [Settings].

2Press [Printer Settings].

3Press [RPGL Menu].

4Press [81. Color Mode].

5Press [Black & White].

6Press [OK].

7Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

8Print the data from the computer.

Note

  • When you print a black-and-white image in color, black areas may be printed using CMY+K inks in some cases. To print black color more clearly, select black-and-white mode for printing black-and-white images.

  • If black-and-white printing is specified in the application, make sure that you select "Black & White" in "81. Color Mode". If you select "Color", black areas may be printed using CMY+K inks in some cases.

Printing with Color and Grayscale Adjusted

You can adjust the Gray Reproduction and the Image Quality Adjustment settings. Adjust that value to achieve better printing results.

1Press [Settings].

2Press [Printer Settings].

3Press [RPGL Menu].

4Press [81. Color Mode].

5Press [Color], and then press [OK].

6Adjust the colors by modifying the settings such as [83. Gray Reproduction] or [85. Image Quality Adjustment].

Use the same procedure as that of [81. Color Mode] to configure [83. Gray Reproduction].

To adjust the colors using [85. Image Quality Adjustment], press [85-1. Brightness] or [85-2. Color Saturation], and then enter the value using the number keys.

7Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

8When you have finished adjusting the colors, print the color sample to confirm the result.

Check color conditions, and adjust the settings if necessary.

9Print the data from the computer.

Note

  • The Gray Reproduction settings are ineffective for "RP-GL/2 (Type1, Type3)". The Image Quality Adjustment settings ineffective on raster data for "RP-GL/2 (Type1)".

Selecting a paper input location automatically - Printing at full size

Use the following procedure to enable the automatic selection of a paper input location when the print data size matches the paper size.

1Press [Settings].

2Press [Printer Settings].

3Press [RPGL Menu].

4Press [43. Method to Select Paper Input Automatically].

5Press [Auto 2: Long Edge and Short Edge] or [Auto 1: Long Edge], and then press [OK].

For RP-GL, select "Auto 2: Long Edge and Short Edge". For RP-GL/2, select "Auto 2: Long Edge and Short Edge" or "Auto 1: Long Edge".

6Press [20. Reproduction Ratio].

7Make sure that "100.0%" is selected as the Reproduction Ratio, and then press [OK].

If a different value is displayed, enter "100.0%" using the number keys.

8Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

9Print the data from the computer.

Paper is fed from the paper input location loaded with the size of paper determined by "47. Method to Determine Original Size".

Note

Selecting a paper input location automatically - Performing reduced printing on the paper size specified

Use the following procedure to configure the machine to automatically reduce data that is larger than the specified paper size to match the paper when printing.

The example below is for printing A2-sized data on A3 paper.

1Press [Settings].

2Press [Printer Settings].

3Press [RPGL Menu].

4Press [43. Method to Select Paper Input Automatically].

5Press [Auto 2 (L&S Edge) + Auto R/E Ratio: Paper Size Set.].

6Make sure that [A3] is selected, and then press [OK].

7Press [OK].

8Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

9Print the data from the computer.

The size determined according to the settings for "47. Method to Determine Original Size" on the RPGL Menu is reduced to match A3 paper for printing.

Note

  • For RP-GL, the data is reduced to the size with a 10-mm margin at each edge (top, bottom, left, and right) to the positions specified in "23. Printable Area (Hard Clip)". The data is automatically reduced and printed at a slightly smaller size than the paper.

  • For RP-GL/2, the data is reduced to the size with a 7-mm margin at each edge (top, bottom, left, and right) to the specified paper size. The data is automatically reduced and printed at a slightly smaller size than the paper.

  • For details about how to configure the settings in "43. Method to Select Paper Input Automatically", see 43. Method to Select Paper Input Automatically.

Selecting a paper input location automatically - Printing custom sized data

Use the following procedure to configure the machine to automatically select the appropriate paper input location when the print data is of a custom size.

1Press [Settings].

2Press [Printer Settings].

3Press [RPGL Menu].

4Press [43. Method to Select Paper Input Automatically].

5Press [Orig. Size Determined + Auto R/E Ratio: Correct Value].

6Specify the value in the submenu, and then press [OK].

7Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

8Print the data from the computer.

Paper is fed from the paper input location loaded with paper of the size determined by "47. Method to Determine Original Size".

Note

Printing on Paper for Landscape Printing

In order to use the paper input location on which paper can be loaded only in landscape orientation to print data that has been created to be printed in portrait orientation, rotate the data using "93. Auto Rotate for Landscape Printing".

1Press [Settings].

2Press [Printer Settings].

3Press [RPGL Menu].

4Press [93. Auto Rotation for Landscape Printing].

5Press [On], and then press [OK].

6Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

7Print the data from the computer.

Changing the Paper Output Orientation

You can change the paper output orientation when the paper input location is selected automatically according to the settings in "43. Method to Select Paper Input Automatically".

1Press [Settings].

2Press [Printer Settings].

3Press [RPGL Menu].

4Press [103. Paper Orientation Priority].

5Press [Portrait (Short Edge Feed)], and then press [OK].

6Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

7Print the data from the computer.
