Basic Procedure for Copying Documents

Set the original on the exposure glass or auto document feeder (ADF) to make a copy.

Important

  • If the previous setting is still active, press [Reset] before copying.

  1. Press [Copy] on the Home screen.

    To copy both sides of the paper, confirm the orientation of the original according to how you want the printout to appear.

    Basic Original Orientation

    When placing originals, such as A4Portrait or 81/2 × 11 (LT) Portrait in an unreadable orientation, place them as shown below, and then specify [Original Orientation].

    Rotate the original clockwise or counter-clockwise 90 degrees and place it face down.

    When placing originals, such as A4Landscape or 81/2 × 11 (LT) Landscape in a readable orientation, place them as shown below, and then specify [Original Orientation].

  3. Press [Original Setting/Store File] [Original Size] on the Copy screen, and then specify original size.

  4. Press [Original Setting/Store File] [Original Orientation] on the Copy screen.

    If you place the original face up and rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise, this setting is not necessary if [90 Deg. Cnterclockwse.] is displayed on the key. Placing of the original is completed.

  5. Specify the Original Orientation.

    If the display of this screen is not necessary when you press [Start], clear the [Check the orientation of the original every time after pressing [Start]] check box.

  6. Select the color mode.

    Colors with high brightness, such as yellow, may be printed lighter if [Black & White] is selected for the color mode. Select [Full Color] if a color with high brightness was not printed.

  7. Press [plus] or [minus] in [Quantity] to specify the number of copies.

    You can enter this using the keyboard after pressing [Quantity] or a number.

  8. Press the paper tray select key and select the paper to use as necessary.

    • When paper runs out, the machine selects another tray that is loaded with paper of the same size as the setting of the current tray and resumes copying. If you do not want to use other trays when paper runs out, set the machine so it does not automatically select other trays.

    • To prevent the machine from selecting other trays automatically, disable auto tray switching.

  9. Press [Start].

    • The confirmation screen for the original orientation may be displayed depending on the settings. Select the original orientation as necessary. If you do not need to select this each time, clear the [Check the orientation of the original every time after pressing [Start]] check box.

    • When you place the original on the ADF, the process of copying the original starts.

    • When you place the original on the exposure glass, the copy process starts according to the setting contents. To make a copy of the second page or back side of the original, place the original accordingly on the exposure glass, and then press [Start]. Press [Finish Scn] after scanning all originals if necessary according to the setting contents.

Note

  • If you scan the originals in advance, then even if paper runs out or an error occurs, copying is performed automatically when the machine is ready to execute copying.

  • You can register frequently used settings such as color mode and duplex copy as default values. By registering the default values in advance, you can save the trouble of setting the scanning and printing conditions. For details, see the following section:

  • You can specify scanning resolutions. When [300 x 400dpi] is selected, printing speed is given priority; when [300 x 600dpi] is selected, image quality is given priority. For details, see the following section:
