Wireless LAN Settings
Configure settings for the wireless LAN board to use wireless LAN.
Some items are for reference only and cannot be changed.
To configure settings for interface options other than the wireless LAN board, use the Interface Settings page.
Note
- Settings on this page can be changed by the following administrators and users:
- Network Administrator
- Users logged on
User authentication is enabled on the device and users are permitted to make changes to administrator's setting items.
LAN Type
Switch the interface between Ethernet and wireless LAN. This is available only if the device supports both interfaces.
Note
- When Wireless LAN is in use, the switching option is not available.
General Settings
Displays wireless LAN board information.
Network
Displays wireless LAN operation status.
MAC Address
Displays the MAC address (Media Access Control Address) of the wireless LAN board.
Available Wireless LAN
Displays the wireless LAN standards that the device supports.
Wireless Signal Status
Displays the strength of the wireless LAN signal, as a text string and percentage.
The wireless signal status can be measured only when Infrastructure Mode is selected in the communication mode.
Communication Mode
Select the communication mode.
802.11 Ad-hoc Mode
A method of communicating with other computers, peer to peer, without an access point. The same communication channel and SSID must be used for all computers.
Infrastructure Mode
A method of communicating with other computers via an access point. The SSID must be the same as the one set for the access point.
SSID
Enter the SSID (Service Set Identifier) to be used, using up to 32 characters.
The SSID currently in use appears in parentheses.
The SSID is an identifier used when connecting between an access point and a wireless LAN client.
Only a wireless LAN client and an access point that have the same SSID can communicate with each other.
Channel
If 802.11 Ad-hoc Mode is selected in Communication Mode, select a communication channel.
Parentheses indicate the channel that is currently in use.
The channel is a set radio frequency used for wireless LAN.
Computers using the same channel can communicate with each other.
Security Method
Select an encryption method to protect wireless data communication.
Inactive
Select this not to encrypt.
WEP
Select this to use Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP).
If WEP is selected, configure settings for WEP Settings.
To communicate using encrypted data, both the transmitting and receiving computers' data must be set with the same WEP key number and value.
Note
- If no WEP key is configured, WEP encrypted communication cannot be enabled.
WPA
Select this to use Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA).
When WPA is selected, configure settings for WPA Settings.
Note
- You can select this when Communication Mode is set to Infrastructure Mode.
WEP Settings
Configure settings for WEP encrypted communication if Security Method is set to WEP.
WEP Authentication
Select the WEP authentication mode.
The authentication mode currently in use appears in parentheses.
Open System
Authentication using the WEP key is not performed.
Note
- The same WEP key must be used for all computers to enable WEP encrypted communication, though the key is not used for authentication.
Shared Key
Authentication using the WEP key is performed. If a different or no WEP key is configured at the other station (access point or device), connection is disrupted.
WEP Key Number
Select the key number used for WEP authentication.
Different WEP keys can be set for each key number.
When you select a key number, Already Set or Not Set will appear in the WEP Key area to indicate whether or not a WEP key is assigned to that number.
If Not Set appears in the WEP Key area, click the Change button to assign the WEP key.
Note
- To enable WEP encrypted communication, both the transmitting and receiving computers' data must be set with the same WEP key.
WEP Key
Displays whether or not a WEP key is assigned to the key number selected in the WEP Key Number list.
Click Change to set or change the WEP key.
WPA Settings
Configure settings for WPA encrypted communication if Security Method is set to WPA.
WPA Encryption Method
Displays the WPA encryption mode to be used. This machine supports CCMP (AES).
WPA Authentication Method
Select the WPA authentication mode.
WPA
The Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) is used for encryption. On the IEEE 802.1X page, configure the detailed settings.

The Pre-Shared Key (PSK) is used for encryption. When WPA-PSK is selected, configure settings for WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK.
WPA2
This mode provides higher security than WPA and supports AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). On the IEEE 802.1X page, configure the detailed settings.

This mode provides higher security than WPA-PSK and supports AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). Configure settings for this mode under WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK.
WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK
Displays the status of the Pre-Shared Key (PSK). If Not Set is displayed, click Change to configure settings for PSK.

Refresh
Click to update the currently displayed information.
Note
- Before making the settings, click Refresh to obtain the machine's current status.
OK
Click to apply the settings.
Cancel
Click to cancel the settings.
