Using UNIX Commands

This section explains how to print files directly without having to open an application using printing commands, such as "ftp" and "lpr".

The procedures for printing a PDF file are shown as examples. For details about how to print HP-GL, HP-GL/2, HP-RTL, TIFF, CALS, JPEG, and PDF files, see RP-GL/2 and RTIFF.

Printing PDF Files Using Commands

Use the following procedure to send a PDF file to this machine using printing commands.

Following is an example when using the "lpr" command to print a PDF file by specifying the machine's IP address.

%lpr -S "printer's IP address" [-Poption] [-o l]\ "path"\"PDF file name"

Note

  • Replace the strings enclosed in quotations with the appropriate setting's value.

  • Entering the text enclosed in brackets [ ] is optional.

Printing Password Protected PDF Files Using Commands

Use the following procedure to print a password-protected PDF file directly.

To print a password-protected PDF file, enter the password using the control panel or Web Image Monitor.

Using the Control Panel

To enter a PDF password using the control panel, select [Change PDF Password] on [PDF Menu] under Printer Settings.

Using Web Image Monitor

To enter the PDF password using Web Image Monitor, set [PDF Temporary Password] under [Configuration]. For details, see Web Image Monitor Help.
