Configuring the WINS Server
This section explains how to configure the WINS server.
The machine can be configured to register its NetBIOS name with a WINS server when the power is turned on. This enables the NetBIOS name of the machine to be specified from SmartDeviceMonitor for Admin even in a DHCP environment.
Using a web browser
You can configure the WINS server using a web browser from networked computers. (We use Web Image Monitor installed on this machine.)
Start a web browser from a networked computer.
Enter "http://(machine's IP address or host name) /" in the address bar to access the machine whose settings you want to change.
Top Page of Web Image Monitor appears.
Click [Login].
The dialog box for entering the user name and password appears.
Enter the user name and password, and then click [Login].
Contact your administrator for information about the settings.
Depending on the configuration of your web browser, the login user name and password might be saved. If you do not want to save them, configure your web browser's settings so that this information is not saved.
In the menu area, click [Configuration] on the [Device Management] menu.
Under "Network", click [IPv4].
Check that [Active] is selected for [WINS] in the [Ethernet + Wireless LAN] column, and then enter the WINS server IPv4 address in [Primary WINS Server] and [Secondary WINS Server].
Click [OK].
“Updating...” appears. Wait for about one or two minutes, and then click [OK].
Quit the web browser.
The WINS server is supported by Windows Server 2008 or later.
For details about the WINS server settings, see Windows Help.
If there is no reply from the WINS server, the NetBIOS name is registered by broadcast.
The NetBIOS name can be entered using up to 15 alphanumeric characters.
You can also use telnet to configure WINS.
Use the "wins" command to make the setting with telnet.
