About Access Privileges
"Access privileges" in Web Image Monitor refers to settings that allow or deny users access to the device for checking and performing operations via a Web browser.

R (Read): read-only privilege
With this privilege you can view status and other information about the device.
RW (Read and Write): read and write privilege
With this privilege you can view, edit, and manage the information and settings for various operations such as configuring the Address Book and device.
—: No privilege
With no privilege, you can neither view nor edit the settings or other information.
Different privileges granted based on user type
Not all users have the same access privileges.
Users are categorized as below depending on whether user authentication is enabled, and whether he/she is a general user or administrator.
User (user authentication disabled)
When user authentication is disabled, users can access the device by simply connecting to the device via a Web browser.
Users can view device status and some settings.
However, you cannot change device settings.
User (user authentication enabled)
When user authentication is enabled, fewer functions are available to users unless they are logged in.
You can view device status and query information.
After logging in to the device by clicking Login in the header area, you can edit the Address Book.
If the administration level is set to "Low" for administrator's setting items, users can also configure some network or device settings.
User Administrator
Manages the Address Book. User Administrators can delete or change the password of a user registered to the Address Book even if the password is unknown.
Machine Administrator
Manages device settings. Machine Administrators can manage print jobs stored in the Document Server, configure settings on the pages displayed by selecting Device Management - Configuration - Device Settings.
Network Administrator
Sets up the device's network configuration. Network Administrators mainly configure settings on the pages displayed by selecting Device Management - Configuration - Network.
File Administrator
Configures registration and authentication settings for File Administrators.
Supervisor
Supervisors can change or delete the password of administrator or Supervisor on the Device Management: Configuration: Device Settings: Program/Change Administrator page.
Supervisors are responsible for changing the password as needed; he/she cannot perform any other operation.
A password is required for managing the device.
For example, if the administrator loses his/her password, he/she cannot log in to the device to change its settings.
Supervisor is provided to address this problem.
Supervisor has the right to change the administrator's password, but only the administrator can change device settings.
Note
- When you have logged in to the device as administrator or User, the Login button turns into the Logout button. When you finish operations, be sure to click Logout to log out.
- Some Web browsers permit data caching while you use Web Image Monitor, which may cause data leakage.
When using Web Image Monitor on a computer that multiple users have access to, we recommend that you log out and clear cached files after finishing operations and quitting Web browsers that may be running to prevent data leakage or third party tampering. - If the Web browser's auto-complete function is enabled, any user names and passwords that are entered will be stored, and unauthorized users will be able to log in using that information. To prevent this, disable the Web browser's auto-complete function.
- Login settings for administrators and Supervisor are specified on the Device Management: Configuration: Device Settings: Program/Change Administrator page.
When logged in as administrator, you can change the administrator's user name and password.
When logged in as Supervisor, you can change the Supervisor's user name and password, as well as the administrator's password. - To specify whether to enable or disable user authentication, use the Device Management: Configuration: Device Settings: User Authentication Management page.
This setting is configured by Machine Administrator, but an authenticated (logged-on) User can also configure this setting if the administration level is set to "Low".
